About Bijar Rugs

Bijar rugs are woven by Kurdish weavers in northwest Persia and are famously known as the 'iron rugs of Persia' for their exceptional density and weight. Tightly hand-knotted and remarkably durable, they often display the classic Herati pattern in deep reds and blues. This sturdiness, paired with bold tribal-influenced design, makes Bijar carpets both beautiful and built to last for generations. Antique examples are highly collectible and well suited to rooms that see daily life.

Each rug at First Rugs is individually sourced — no two are alike. Natural variation in color, pile, and patina is part of what gives hand-knotted rugs their lasting character and investment value.
