About Shirvan Rugs

Shirvan rugs are woven in the eastern Caucasus, in present-day Azerbaijan, and are among the most technically accomplished of all Caucasian weavings. They are recognized for finely drawn geometric medallions, star motifs, and dense, jewel-like patterning set against rich indigo or ivory grounds. The tight, precise hand-knotting reflects a more refined weaving tradition than many of their bolder Caucasian neighbors. Antique Shirvan carpets are highly collectible, prized by connoisseurs for their fine detail and the rare, small-workshop character many pieces share.
