About Mohtashan Rugs
Mohtashan rugs — also known as Motasham Kashan — are the most celebrated and valuable variant of the antique Kashan tradition. Produced in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by master weavers in Kashan, they are distinguished by their extraordinarily fine knotting, supple handle, and arabesque and medallion designs of exceptional precision. Rich reds, ivory, and deep blues are hallmarks of the palette. Serious collectors worldwide regard antique Mohtashan Kashans as among the pinnacle of classical Persian carpet weaving — rare, refined, and deeply coveted.
