The deep blue field is densely packed with an array of small vases and flowering stems. Overlaying it is a four point medallion and matching corners equally densely filled. The rust main border displays palmettes, rosettes and leaves.

About Farahan Rugs

Farahan rugs are woven in the Arak region of central Persia and are considered the antecedent of the celebrated Sarouk tradition. Antique Farahans are prized for finely drawn Herati patterns and floral lattice work, typically set against deep indigo or soft madder grounds. The tightly hand-knotted wool and restrained, elegant palette give Farahan carpets a scholarly refinement collectors seek out. Farahan Sarouk pieces mark the transitional period between the two traditions, combining Farahan's fine drawing with Sarouk's richer floral density. Predating many later Arak-region weavings, genuine antique Farahans are increasingly rare and valued for their historic pedigree.
